I drove my car into a wall today. Then, I had this wine. A nose of caramel, mint and voluptuous fruit that never quite took centre stage. Instead, the star of the show was a sweet funky underbrush that emerged after a few swirls. I felt like I’d been dropped into a cradle of soft, warm earth, curled up in a fetal position. Brightly acidic with a lingering briny aftertaste, the Brunello began showcasing more and more floral and cherry notes as time went by. I started to count my blessings after a while. Sure, my car was still a wreck, but I do have another 2008 bottle waiting for me. Life could be a lot worse.
