BYO is a minefield. Today, I spent 10 minutes on the phone listening to a woman passionately defend her restaurant’s no-BYO policy. They were tired of diners who would BYO, but refuse to pay the corkage fee after dinner. Are Malaysian wine drinkers such turds? She said she’d make an exception for me though and promised to call me back to confirm. She never did. I guess Malaysian service is no less turd-like than the diners. I went to another restaurant, had a grand time and paid a corkage fee that didn’t make me feel like I was being fleeced. All in all, a great evening.
