Napoleon said: “Nothing makes the future look so rosy as to contemplate it through a glass of Chambertin.” The grand cru vineyard of Charmes, right below Chambertin, is close enough and so, contemplate it I did: A beautiful, lively ruby red in the glass … cherries, raspberries and flowers on the nose … fresh, bright and juicy, this one had me prancing through a garden of flowers (quite a description because I don’t – as a rule – prance). And you know what? Napoleon was right. By the time the bottle was empty, I was feeling oddly optimistic about my future. Another bottle and I might’ve become downright exuberant.
